He could always be found in the kitchen helping prepare for any of the church luncheons or dinners. He took great pride in coaching the church "teener" baseball league, the Methodist Angles, and was proud to receive an award for eight years of perfect attendance for the Sunday school class.
John was one of the first men inducted into the Northumberland Little League Hall of Fame for his more than 40 years as coach and umpire for the league. In addition he also helped to umpire the girl's softball league. He always took the time to not only umpire but to help teach the athletes and spectators about sportsmanship. He also served on a umpiring team with Dick Berry for District Tournament Baseball Games.
He took great pride in maintaining his lawn and mowing his grass. He enjoyed playing Penny-ante with family and friends and later at the Northumberland/Point Township Senior Action Center where he sang in the choir and attended many of their bus trips.
