John Joseph Treese Sr., 74, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016, at his home in Shamokin Dam with his wife at his side.

John was born Jan. 10, 1942, a son of the late Andrew and Agnes Treese. On Sept. 7, 1974, he married Norma Shirley Bidelspach, who survives.

He graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1960.
John served as a Supply Sargent in the United States Army, stationed in Washington State.
John was a concrete mason and was a 40-year member of the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' Union Local 592. Over the years, John worked for King Construction, Frank Skepton Inc., and many others. Long-time friend and employer Frank Skepton said that John was a skilled cement finisher who did quality work and had pride in each job he did.

John was a loving husband, proud father of four and a devout Catholic. He regularly attended both St. Pius X in Selinsgrove and St. Monica's Catholic Church in Sunbury.
John loved sports and, in addition to his years as an athlete, he enjoyed watching sports of all types. His two favorite sports were football and baseball with the Phillies being one of his favorite teams.

John is survived by his wife Norma; four sons, John Jr., James, Franklin and William; six brothers and their spouses, Matthew and Loretta Treese, Thomas and Jane Treese, Michael and Barbara Treese, Gloria Treese, George Treese, Joe and Tina Treese, and Andrew and Rosemary Treese; two sisters, Mary Ellen Treese and Carol Kodak; and three brothers-in-law and their spouses, Harry and JoAnn Bidelspach, Truman and Mary Bidelspach, and Benjamin and Cathy Bidelspach.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury with a Service of Sharing at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Church, Selinsgrove.

Interment will follow in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
