John A. Spigelmyer, 90, of Selinsgrove, passed away on Sunday evening, Oct. 30, 2016, peacefully at his home.
Johnnie, as he was known to his friends and family, was born March 24, 1926, in Paxtonville, a son of the late Thomas and Beulah (Gill) Spigelmyer. He was one of 11 children. On Dec. 27, 1952, he married the former Jacqueline Lenig who preceded him in death on May 12, 2014.
SSg Spigelmyer entered the military on June 15, 1944, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as well as the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatrer. He returned home on July 2, 1948.
Johnnie retired from the Selinsgrove Center.
He was a member of the Shamokin Dam Fire Company and the Heister-Hoffman Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Kay Spigelmyer, of Selinsgrove; one sister and brother-in-law, Letha and Richard Griffith, of Kreamer; and sever nieces and nephews, including Georgie Smith and Richard Hoover who provided care in his latter years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Elwood, Bruce, Malcom, and Stoy Spigelmyer; four sisters, Harriet Seward, Phyllis Saylor, Jean Hartman, and Nora Ritter; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved black Labrador Retreiver, Ringo.
The family would like to thank all of his professional caregivers whose company Johnnie greatly enjoyed and appreciated.
Friends and family will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by funeral at 1, with Pastor Robert P. Doll officiating.
Burial will be in Globe Mills Cemetery, Middleburg.
