Jean M. Scandle Clews, 89, formerly of 819 W. Spruce St., and a current resident of Mountain View Manor Rehab Center, Coal Townshippassed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2017.
She was born July 28, 1928, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (Nahodil) Hoffman.
Jean was a lifelong resident of Shamokin and attended Coal Township High School. Shortly after high school she married the late Francis "Slop" Scandle. Later in life, she married Marvin Clews who preceded her in death.
Jean was a lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ, a member of the Shamokin-Coal Township Library, and a 50-year member of the Wednesday Night Pinochle Club.
Jean was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family. She was very supportive and enthusiastic attending activities and sporting events her children participated in. She could be seen in the stands at youth high school and college sporting events for 50-plus years.
Jean is survived by four children and their spouses, Dennis and Joyce Scandle, of Coal Township, Cathy and Michael Somerday, of Paxinos, Cynthia and Daniel Klebon, of Shamokin, and Ronald and Denise Scandle, of Coal Township; stepdaughter, Judy Smith and husband, William, of Bethany Beach, Del.; grandson, Colin Klebon and wife, Jordan, of Catawissa; granddaughter, Regan Scandle, of Coal Township; stepgrandson, Brad Smith and wife, Andrea, and their sons, Benjamin and Alexander, of North Wales, Pa.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Witmer; and one brother, John Hoffman.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Church of Christ, 1300 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Jean Eckrod officiating.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
