James F. Metzger, 79, of Winfield, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017, peacefully at his home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1937, in Shamokin, a son of the late Fred Metzger and Audrey (Herman) Yohe.
James was a 1955 graduate of Shamokin High School and served as a sergeant in the Army.
He began his career as a vocational teacher before working in the automotive sales and service industry.
James earned his private pilot's license as a young man and continued his love of flying throughout his life. He was avid inventor and mechanic and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Metzger to whom he was happily married for 55 years; his daughters and son-in-laws, Linda and Peter Ashley, of Hopkinton, Mass., and Amy and Tim McKnight, of Richboro; five grandsons, Ryan and Todd Ashley, and Kyle, Kevin and Derek McKnight; and his two brothers, Thomas Metzger, of Etters, and Robert Yohe, of Perry, Ga.
Friends and family may visit from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by a service to celebrate the life of James at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Randall Bennett Jr., officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Union Township Volunteer Fire Company at Municipal Lane, Winfield, PA 17889.
