Irene W. "Renee" Walter, 81, formerly of Paxtonville Road, Middleburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, July 25, 2016, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
She was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Danville, a daughter of the late Henry and Verna (Murray) Oberlin. On Oct. 24, 1953, she married Delbert R. Walter who survives.
At the age of 16, Irene began employment at the Grove Dress Co., Selinsgrove. She later worked at several sewing factories including Blough and Wagner Manufacturing, Middleburg, Hi Li Corp., Penns Creek, Kan Trac Ter, New Berlin, and J.G. Ott Packaging, Selinsgrove, and she retired due to Parkinson's Disease. Irene and her husband operated a french fry stand at the Selinsgrove Race Track for a number of years.
She was a member for more than 50 years at Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg.
She and her husband enjoyed roller skating with their grandsons, Timothy and Henry. She enjoyed collecting dolls, bells, and angels and doing crocheting and ceramic crafts and planting flowers. She dearly loved her family and friends and will be remembered for the homemade pot pie she made for them.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, she was a loving mother to one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene Walter-Steffen and Henry E. Steffen Sr., of Middleburg and one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory R. and Brenda Minium Walter, of Middleburg; two grandsons and their wives, Henry E. Jr. and Darla Steffen, of Beaver Springs, and Timothy E. and Rosanna Steffen, of Mount Pleasant Mills; one stepgranddaughter, Mary Roush and husband Eric, of Elizabethtown; six great-grandchildren, Kayla Steffen Keister, and Keshia, Nicholas, Rick, Shawna and Timmy Steffen; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Tosh Kuhns, Eric, Blaze, Jade, and John Roush; six great-great-grandchildren, Brianna, Austin, Trinity, Grayson, Colten, and Aubrey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Miles Walborn, of Selinsgrove, and Mary Jane and Mark Snyder, of Shamokin; one brother, Richard Oberlin, of Sunbury; and four sisters-in-law, Mary Oberlin, of Selinsgrove, Twila Long, of Middleburg, Jane Walter, of Penns Creek, and Madeline Walter, of Winfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Tommy Oberlin; one sister, Peggy Oberlin; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Oberlin.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Darryl Kuhns officiating.
Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
