Grace D. Mattis, 89, of South Market Street, Elizabethville, formerly of Ridge Road, Halifax, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the Kepler Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Elizabethville.
She was born June 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Elsie (Kinsinger) Phillips. She was married to Paul S. Mattis who preceded her in death.
Grace had worked in the past for the former Willits Shoe Co., Halifax.
She was a member and former Sunday school director and choir director at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fisherville. Grace was very active in all church activities. She also had memberships with the PA Farm Bureau, Fisherville Grange, Daughters of the American Revolution and Lady's Auxiliary of the Fisherville Fire Company.
Grace enjoyed tatting, embroidery , polka, singing and card games.
She is survived by five children, David Mattis, of Halifax, Darlis Allen, of Greentown, Connie Mather (Scott), of East Genoa, N.Y., Bruce Mattis (Carol), of Halifax and Benjamin Mattis, of Gallatin, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11, at Messiah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mike Petresky officating.
Burial will follow in Halifax United Methodist Cemetery, Halifax.
