George P. Hafer, 86, of Lumber City, Reedsville, passed away on Tuesday morning, Nov. 1, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Reedsville, a son of the late Vernie and Hilda M. (Chamberlain) Hafer. He was married for 61 years to the former Dixie H. Wise who survives.
George was a 1949 graduate of Reedsville High School and was a veteran of the Army serving from 1951-1953, at the 7th Evacuation Hospital in Germany.
He retired from Ford New Holland after 37 years of service.
George was a member of Reedsville United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Stroup-Alexander Veterans of Foreign Wars, Belleville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a special God son, Dustin M. Hostetler; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, J. Joan Kuhn; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Bramm; and his special dog, a German Shepard, Hafer's Lady.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Jean Ward officiating.
Interment will follow in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
