Frieda F. Zerbe, 92, of Sunbury, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Liverpool, a daughter of the late Milton L. and Ellen N. (Gelnett) Arnold. On July 17, 1948, she married Charles B. Zerbe and they were together for more than 66 years when Charles passed away in 2014.
Frieda was a 1942 graduate of Sunbury High School.
She was employed in the Sunbury schools (Oaklyn elementary cafeteria) and retired as a teacher's aide from the C.S.I.U. She had worked as a seamstress (sewing also became her hobby) in the Sunbury garment industry for many years. She was a short order cook, along with her mother, at Mel Arnold's Restaurant at the corner of Catawissa and Market streets.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church (formerly Albright), Sunbury.
Frieda took delight in her children and grandchildren's activities, especially the Shikellamy Marching Band. After her children were grown she transformed the play yard using her passion for gardening and landscaping. She loved cooking for family gatherings, playing cards and just having the family over.
She is survived by three children, one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sherri Zerbe, of Sunbury, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Kim Walker, of Sunbury, and Jan and Gregory Snyder, of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, James E. Zerbe, Jacqueline M. Dziadosz and husband, Jason, and Louisa M. Sutton and husband, Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Jonah and Jenevieve Dziadosz; and many nieces and nephews.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Melvin, Morgan, Darwin and Clayton Arnold; and three sisters, Betty Hetrick, Pauline Van Woert and Geraldine Mann.
A memorial celebration of life will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Frieda's memory may be made to the Degenstien Library, 40 S. Fifth St., Sunbury, Mostly Mutts, 284 Little Mountain Road, Sunbury, or Faith United Methodist Church, 203 Arch St., Sunbury, PA 17801.
