Fay I. Leitzel, 85, of Northumberland, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Manor Care, Sunbury.
She was born in Anthony Township, Montour County on June 8, 1931, a daughter of the late Raymond and Edith (McCarty) Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Leitzel in 1988.
Fay graduated from Warrior Run High School in 1949 and was valedictorian of her class. She was formerly employed by Wickes Lumber Co., Northumberland for 26 years and then for Bon Ton Fine Jewelry for five years and last by the Bon Ton Store for five years.
She was a member of St. John's Church, Dry Valley.
Fay was a past Matron of the Lafayette Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a past High Priestess of Messiah Shrine No. 44 and a member of Rugged Cross Shrine No. 39.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy Leitzel, of Sunbury and Dr. Galen Leitzel and his wife, Jennifer, of York; four grandchildren, Adam Leitzel and his wife Tiffany, Patrick Leitzel, Daniel Summers and his wife Kirsten and Ryan Summers; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Mikaela, Nolan and Tobin; one sister, Stella Bennett, of Montoursville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Grover and Jesse Smith; one sister in infancy; and a loved daughter-in-law, Grace Leitzel.
Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland, followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to St. John's Church of Dry Valley, 3667 State Route 304, Winfield, PA 17889.
