F. Gary Watson, 73, of Vincent Avenue, Watsontown, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 16, 1944, in Turbotville, a son of the late Foster G. and Lois J. (Smith) Watson.
Gary was a 1961 graduate of Warrior Run High School where he played football and wrestled.
He was employed at Kelloggs in Williamsport until enlisting in the Army in 1966. After being honorably discharged, he entered the Pennsyvania State Police Academy. During his career as a state policeman, he worked with Troop J in Avondale and retired in January 1995 from Troop F, Milton. Following his retirement, he was a salesman at Fairfield Ford, Montoursville and was a bus driver for Susquehanna Trailways, Avis. Most recently he owned and operated Gary's Travel Service.
Gary was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Turbotville, a member and past-president of the Fraternal Order of Police-PSTA, local lodge and the Warrior Run Athletic Association. He was a member of the Nittany Lion Club and avid supporter of Penn State and Warrior Run Athletics. He was a former coach of Warrior Run Midget Football and Watsontown Little League.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most precious to him was his family and attending all his grandchildren's activities.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory T. and Nicole C. Watson and Garth R. and Sara E. Watson, all of Watsontown; one daughter, Tracy L. Heiss, of Allenwood; six grandchildren, Lauren, Kaelyn, Hank, and Mae Watson, and Trey and Gabrielle Heiss; two brothers and sisters-in-law, R. Danny and Bonnie J. Watson, of Montoursville, and Lynn E. and Susanne J. Watson, of Watsontown; his former wife, Phyllis A. Watson, of Allenwood; numerous nieces and nephews and quite an extended family.
Friends and family are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by the funeral at 11, at Holy Spirit Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10275 Route 44, Turbotville, with his pastor, the Rev. Thomas Glasoe, officiating.
Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
