Evelyn V. Dewire

Evelyn V. (Lawrence) Dewire, 94, formerly of Datesman Village, West Milton and Madison Avenue, Milton, passed away on Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at the Milton Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Milton, a daughter of the late John J. and Jenny B. (Horne) Lawrence. On Nov. 10, 1944, she married Glenwood J. Dewire who preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 2006.
Evelyn was a 1940 graduate of Milton High School and worked for the Milton School District in food services before retiring in 1983.
She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milton where she taught Sunday school and helped with vacation Bible school.
Evelyn was one of the many Rosie the Riveters, working at an airport near Harrisburg. She was very proud of the work she did to help out during those hard times. She was a member of the Milton Historical Society where she liked to help with the Strawberry Festival and a member of AARP Chapter 3721.
Evelyn was known for her great pies that she always baked with love.
She is survived by one son, Glenwood J. Dewire Jr., of Winfield; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kay S. Dunn, of Milton, and Carol and Terry Skarupsky, of Highspire; one brother, Harold N. Lawrence, of Paxinos; two grandsons, Philip K. Dewire and Chad M. Skarupsky; one granddaughter and her companion, Alexandra J. Skarupsky and Eric Chado; one great-grandson, Dominic Skarupsky Chado; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald W. and Malcolm J. Lawrence; and one sister, Dorothy E. Longenberger.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, 1125 Mahoning St., Milton, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Steven Middernacht officiating.
Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Milton Nursing and Rehab Center and Evangelical Hospice for all the love, help, and care shown to Evelyn and her family.
