Edith A. Messner, 95, of Sunbury, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Sunbury Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Jerre and Grace (Reed) Michaels. She was married to Merlin Messner who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2006.
Edith was a 1939 graduate of Sunbury High School.
She was employed at Westinghouse and the Valley Bank in Sunbury and was last employed for 20 years as secretary to the superintendent of the Shikellamy School District.
She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Sunbury.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mollie and Bruce Hines, of Dallas, Texas, and Barbara and David Bish, of Maysville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Richard Inkrote, of Garland, Texas, and Joelle Inkrote, of Dallas, Texas; and two sisters, Mary Brown, of Selinsgrove and Jane Rossig, of New Market, Md.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Inkrote; one brother, George; and three sisters, Catherine Hockenbrocht, Hazel Edwards, and Helen Saxton.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 2.
Interment will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
