Earl W. Lyter, 74, of Center Avenue, Beaver Springs, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born Sept. 27, 1942, a son of the late Clyde P. and S. Margaret (Pecht) Lyter. On June 27, 1965, he married the former Margaret A. Henry who survives.
Earl was a 1960 graduate of West Snyder High School. He served in the Army at Fort Knox, Ky., from 1960-1964, as a clerk typist.
After returning from the service, he was employed at Fisher Electronics where he worked in shipping for approximately five years until he contracted Leukemia. At that time the doctors predicted his life to last six weeks. God granted him 47½ years more.
Earl was a member of the Orthodox Church Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Beavertown, a member of the Beaver Springs American Legion Post 23, the Beaver Springs Fire Company for 55 years, the Beaver Springs Ambulance secretary/treasurer for 21 years, and a former EMT.
In the mid-seventies he became an auctioneer by attending an auctioneer school in Mason City, Iowa.
In his spare time, Earl enjoyed woodworking and stamp and coin collecting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Gina R. Lyter, of Waynesboro; one brother, Wayne Lyter; and two sisters, Grace Wieder and Audrey Ritter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Lyter; and one sister, Jean Weikle .
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Orthodox Church Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Beavertown with Father John Reeves and Father David Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Adamsburg Cemetery.
