Dorothy A. Kratzer, of Middleburg, passed away at RiverWoods Nursing Home of Lewisburg, on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the age of 96.
She was born July 26, 1920, in Burnham, the youngest child of Edward J. and Carrie (Klingler) Hughes.
Dorothy graduated valedictorian of her Burnham High School, Class of 1938.
She married David Kratzer in 1945, who preceded her in death in 1989. Her brother-in-law, Seneca Kratzer survives.
Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elgarda and Charles Mitchell, of Troxelville and Beverly and Neil Nord, of Clinton, Iowa; two granddaughters, Kina Lepley, of Troxelville, and Jennifer Peterson, of Lancaster; one stepgranddaughter, Tara Nord, of Dewitt, Iowa; five great-granddaughters, Carlie, Haley, Marissa, Leah, and Gabi; and two stepgreat-granddaughters, MaKenna and Kahley; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two granddaughters, Annette and Jeanette Mitchell, of Troxelville; two sisters, Joyce Henry, of Beaver Springs, and Anna Fae Frye, of Annville; and one brother, John Hughes, of Selinsgrove.
She was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church of Troxelville.
Dorothy was a farmer's wife for 23 years. She worked at numerous sewing factories and later in life was a member of the Foster Grandparent program for 25 years.
She dearly loved her daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Dorothy spent a lot of time reading, putting puzzles together, playing games and making plastic canvas crafts for others. She even sold some and then gave the money to her church. She would participate in many activities while a nursing home resident, especially bingo.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Troxelville with the Rev. Matthew D. Schuster, STS, presiding.
