Donald R. Muffley, 89, of Milton, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the Evangelical Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late David and Neta (Lytle) Muffley. He was married to the former Donna Jean Milner. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on Sept. 26.
Donald was a graduate of Milton High School and attended Lycoming College. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1987 after 33 years of service.
He was a veteran of WWII, receiving the Meritorious Service Award, Army of Occupation Medal and Word War II Victory Medal. After seven years of Active Duty service with distinction in Germany, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant before transitioning into the Army National Guard in 1952, where he faithfully served until retiring in 1986 after receiving numerous decorations for personal accomplishments and dedication in service to his country. The leadership, discipline and respect he inspired into so many emanates in his children and grandchildren.
Donald was an active member St. John's United Church of Christ, New Columbia; and was a volunteer with his wife with the Milton/ Lewisburg Meals on Wheels for 15 years.
He was a family man. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, woodworking and John Wayne movies.
Donald is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Gary and Cindy Muffley, of Tallahassee, Fla., David and Norma Muffley, of Milton, Keith Muffley, of Milton, and Craig and Judy Muffley, of Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Karen Keefer, of Milton; eight grandchildren, Curt Muffley, Gregory Muffley, Leslie Stewart, Ryan Muffley, Bradley Muffley, Andrew Muffley, Brent Keefer, and Brandon Keefer; two step-grandchildren, Diana Konyar and Eric Guffey; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Brian Muffley, in 1987.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 906 Old Route 15 New Columbia. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Pastor Bonni Lucas officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Milton Cemetery.
