Donald's Story

Donald L. Bird, 89, of New Columbia, passed from this life to the next on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, in his home of 50 years.
He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Sunbury, a son of the late Floyd Edgar and Thelma (Sheets) Bird. He was married for 65 years to the former Mary Lou Hemrick until her death in 2016.

Donald was a 1945 graduate of Milton High School. He had served as a Sea Bee in the Navy during World War II.
He was a bricklayer and had taught at Penn College. He had also worked as a truck driver and worked for the White Deer Township road crew and served as the Township secretary.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, West Milton, the Lewisburg American Legion, the Turbotville VFW, and a life member of the North American Fishing Alliance and Bassmasters.
Donald was a Boy Scout leader from Cub Scouts through Boy Scouts in New Columbia and West Milton. He was an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Dorothy Bird, of Dewart; one daughter and son-in-law Luanne and Terry Prowant, of New Columbia; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Satteson and husband Jody, Leesa Brunner and companion Patrick Rabuck, Amy Robinson and husband Gavin, Cory Bird, Angela Bird, Scott Clark and wife Janelle, and Loretta Clark; 14 great-grandchildren, Jerika, John, James and Jack Satteson, Darian, Dakota and Duke Brunner, Gavin and Sadie Robinson, Logan Thomas, Charles "Wilder" Flebotte, Ashlyn and Taylor Clark, and Corey Aldenderfer; six great-great-grandchildren, Oliver Satteson, Colten and Luanna Brunner, Greycyn and Kovi Satteson, and Kyleigh Aldenderfer.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Lee Bird; and two sisters, Gladys Rieder and Shirley Lawrence.

Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Timothy Hogan-Palazzo officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
