Text size

Clair L. "Pop-Pop" Aucker, of Grayson View Court, Selinsgrove, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
He was born July 30, 1931, in Mount Pleasant Mills (Littletown), a son of the late Estella Aucker Blackburn. In 1957, he married the former Desna Varner, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of nearly 59 years.
Clair attended Selinsgrove area schools.
He was a cabinetmaker by trade. Early in his career he crafted church furniture as well as display cabinets for various Philadelphia department stores. He retired from Jeld-Wen, formerly Young Door Company, Sunbury.
He was a man ahead of his time who was the original DIY guy, gentleman farmer, and American picker and had an innate ability to restore antique engines. First and foremost was Clair's unconditional love for his family which he showed by building his own home. His personality, quick wit, and humor attracted a wide circle of friends.
Clair is survived by four children and their spouses, Lorna and Steven Gessner, of Richfield, Dale and Lori Aucker, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Anita and Carl Schlegel, of Mifflintown, and David and Barb Aucker, of Millerstown; eight grandchildren, Carolyn Gessner Neimond and husband Levi, Allison Gessner Hornberger and husband Tim, Madeline Gessner, Joshua Aucker, Andrew Schlegel, Angela Schlegel, Lance Aucker, and Alyssa Aucker; four great grandchildren, Mazie Claire Neimond, Nash William Neimond, Ryder Neil Hornberger, and Nevin Andrew Hornberger. Clair enjoyed a close relationship with his uncles, aunts, and cousins.
There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Clair to East Snyder Regional Recreational Association earmark Buddy Bench, 228 Clifford Road, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.
The George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Rt. 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills is assisting the family with the arrangements.
