Cathy's Story

Text size

Cathy K. Butkofsky, 59, of Myotis Drive, Shamokin Dam, formerly of Ridge Road, Point Township, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born Dec. 20, 1957, in Danville, a daughter of the late Gordon R. and June L. (Hower) Reichenbach. On May 24, 1980, she married John F. Butkofsky in Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, where she was a member.

Cathy was a 1976 graduate of Shikellamy High School.
She was employed for 37 years with Geisinger Health Plan as benefit coordinator.
Cathy loved her many flowers and tending to her flower beds. She was a fitness fanatic who enjoyed cycling and time in her swimming pool. She loved to feel the sand between her toes while at the beaches of Charleston, S.C. and Ocean City, Md. Cathy had a wonderful sense of adventure and tried to experience as much as possible. She was truly a "people person", a social butterfly who treasured time with family and friends. Cathy and John opened their home to everyone and hosted the event of the year, their annual Fourth of July party.

In addition to her husband of 36 years, she is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Cindy J. and Barry R. Moser, of Northumberland, and Candy G. Mull, of Shamokin; nieces and nephews, Casey E. Ferentz and her husband Brian, Cody T. Moser, H. Justin Mull and wife Paula, and Bridget M. Shovlin and her husband Jon; great-nieces and nephews, Harper Ferentz, Lynzie and Kendra Mull, Kayleigh, Cassidy, and Shannon and Molly Shovlin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Julie B. and Greg Krone, of Akron, Ohio; and her kittens that she loved so much, Daisy, Bowie and Violet.
Cathy was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, H. Wayne Mull; great-nephew, Joseph Shovlin; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank J. and Cathryn A. Butkofsky.

Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 300 Queen St., Northumberland, where a celebration of Cathy's life will begin at 11, with the Rev. Scott Shay officiating.

Contributions in Cathy's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Susquehanna Unit, 1420 N. Susquehanna Trail, Selinsgrove, PA 17870, or to the SPCA, 2801 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821.
