Carolyn's Story

Carolyn M. Arndt, 64, of Mount Pleasant Mills, entered into rest on Sunday morning, May 28, 2017, at the Sunbury Community Hospital, Sunbury.
She was born Oct. 23, 1952, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late James R. and Agnes Mae (Shirk) Arndt.

Carolyn was a 1970 graduate of Middleburg Joint High School and a 1973 graduate of Bloomsburg State College where she received a bachelor of science degree in special education.
She retired from Midd-West School District in 2008. She taught at Beavertown, Middleburg Elementary School, and West Snyder High School. After the merger she taught at Midd-West High School, Middleburg.
She was a former Little League coach for Richfield and Fremont, and a softball coach for West Snyder High school.
Carolyn was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees Region V, as well as Snyder Chapter, with honor and distinction as a member and chairperson of the Region V educational support committee, Snyder County Chapter past president, and Snyder Chapter current educational support committee chairman; in addition, she had been an active member of her community, serving as a board member of the Middleburg Kiwanis, as president and secretary of the Snyder County Historical Society, as state historian and state chaplain of the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War as well as treasurer of the local Tent 60 Daughters of the Union of the Veterans of the Civil War, regent of Conrad Weiser Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Selinsgrove, Friends of Gettysburg Foundation, Juniata Mennonite Historical Society, National Education Association of the United States, secretary of the Richfield Fire Company Auxiliary, Richfield Ambulance League, Fremont Fire Department, and Reliance Hose Co. No. 1 Ambulance, Middleburg, and serving as West Perry Township Inspector of Elections.
Carolyn enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, history, and was the quilter of several of the Richfield Dutch Days Name quilts.

She is survived by her companion, David A. Garman, of Mount Pleasant Mills; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Shawn R. and Connie Arndt, of Carthage, Mo., and Darryl V. Arndt, of Lewisburg; one sister, Fawn A. Arndt, of Richfield; one nephew, Brandon J. Arndt; four aunts, Carrie Shirk, of Liverpool, Mildred Coup, of Watsontown, Mary Lauver and Nova Knouse, both of Mount Pleasant Mills.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m., all from the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Tammy S. Gessner officiating.
Burial will be in Richfield Union Cemetery, Richfield.
