Boyd R. Kerstetter, 93, of Fryling Lane and more recently a resident of Rockwell Retirement Center, Milton, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born May 6, 1923, in Northumberland, a son of the late Boyd and Daisy (Renn) Kerstetter. On Nov. 27, 1952, he married the former Maryanna Hickey, who preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 2003.
He was a 1941 graduate of Northumberland High School. On Feb. 18, 1943, he joined the army, serving during World War II with the 135 Infantry and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on Nov. 8, 1945.
Boyd was retired from Merck & Co. where he was a refrigeration mechanic with more than 35 years of service.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Northumberland.
He was an avid outdoorsman who earlier in life enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Boyd is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Pat A. and Harry Samot, of Woodbine, N.J.; one son and daughter-in-law, Kirk H. and Diane L. Kerstetter, of Bellefonte; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jon David and Dorothy Kerstetter, of Lima, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Boyd was preceded in death by four sisters, Marama and Barbara J. Kerstetter, Judy Ford, and Mollie M. Whipple.
A private graveside service will be held in Northumberland Memorial Park with the Rev. Cynthia Gunter officiating.
Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.
