Betty R. Aurand, 90, of Salem, passed away on Saturday morning, Aug. 19, 2017, at Brookdale Grayson View, Selinsgrove.
She was born April 7, 1927, in Salem, a daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary L. (Stetler) Aurand.
Betty was a 1945 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. Following high school she began employment with the Middlecreek Valley Telephone Company as an operator and retired after more than 40 years of service. At the time of her retirement it was called the Continental Telephone Company of Pennsylvania.
She was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church where she had served as director of the junior choir for many years, sang in the adult choir, and served as Sunday School Superintendent.
She was a member of the former POS of A, Kreamer. Betty loved horses, dogs and cats, mowing her yard, movie memorabilia, and reading, especially mystery books. She had a pen pal in Belfast, Ireland, for more than 40 years and took a trip there to visit with her.
Surviving are one sister, Miriam "Dolly" Aurand, of Selinsgrove; one niece, Linda Maurer and her husband Harry; one nephew, Leonard and his wife Bobbie Aurand; three great-nephews, one great-niece, two great-great-nephews, and one great-great-niece.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Loretta "Rita" Aurand; and two brothers, Franklin Aurand and Ray Aurand and his wife June.
At Betty's request, services will be private with the Rev. Kristina Schaeffer officiating.
Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Selinsgrove.
Contributions to honor Betty's memory may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
