Arla H. Mattern, 90, of S. Center St., Beavertown, passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at 4:30 a.m. after a short stay at the Manor at Penn Village in Selinsgrove.
She was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant Mills, a daughter of the late Franklin R. (Pierce) and Lera (Kratzer) Longacre. In 1944, she married Paul I. Mattern, who preceded her in death in 1979.
She attended school through the eighth grade in Potato Valley.
Arla worked for 32 years as a cook in the Beaver Adams school cafeteria.
She was an active member of Grace Reformed Church in Troxelville and also previously helped with Sunday School.
She read her Bible everyday and also enjoyed writing in her journal which she kept for many years. She especially enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Romig; two grandchildren, James Romig and wife Wendy, and Andrea Amu and husband Mugi; one great granddaughter, Lera Ulrich and husband Matthew; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jacob and Lorraine Longacre, Charles and Lois Longacre, and Melvin and Rita Longacre; two sisters-in-law, Pat Longacre and Gloria Longacre; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death in addition to her husband by one grandson, Isaac James Romig; her son-in-law, Fred Romig; great granddaughters, Angel Amu, Ava Noel and Amelia Grace Ann Amu; brothers, Glenn Straub and wife Vertie, Franklin Longacre Jr., Donald Longacre, and Lester Longacre and wife Evelyn; and her sisters, Miriam Herrold and Luella Dressler.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Reformed Church, Troxelville, where the funeral will follow at 12 p.m. with the Rev. A. Peter Christensen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Troxelville Union Cemetery.
