Andrew P. Gavason, 90, of 405 Catawissa Ave., Sunbury, passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.
He was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Sunbury, a son of the late Peter and Anna (Pintley) Gavason. He married the former Janet L. Gearheart who preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 1995.

Andy attended Northumberland schools. He joined the Army and served his country in France and Germany during World War II.
He was employed as a machinist at Forge Flow, then retiring from Jules Schenk Machines in 2000.
He was a life member of the Northumberland VFW and the Sunbury American Legion Post 201, a member of the Americus Hose Company, the Northumberland No. 1 Hose Company, and was active and was president of the Sunbury Senior Action Center and helped with Meals on Wheels.
Andy was a huge fan of many sports. He coached and played for local softball leagues and was active in community organizations.

He is survived by three children and their spouses, Jo M. and William Picton, of Sunbury, Anthony P. Gavason, of Sunbury, and Chad P. and Renee Gavason, of Shamokin Dam; four grandchildren, Melanie Picton and significant other, Brian Schneider, Kristy, Olivia and Ryan Gavason; one great-grandson, Quentin Schneider; one sister, Helen Wagonseller, of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Harry Gavason, of Northumberland; and many nephews and nieces.
Andy was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, John, and George Gavason; one sister, Mary Bidelspach; and one niece.

Friends and family may visit from 9 to 10:55 a.m. Friday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Gunter officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
