Winifred "Winnie" Bickel, 87, of Sunbury, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, in the Special Care Unit at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Harrisburg, a daughter of the late Robert Glenn and AnnaMae (Shirk) Shaffer. She married Ronald L. Bickel on July 3, 1971.
Winifred attended Sunbury High School.
She was employed as a coner at the Sunbury Textile Mills, Sunbury for 28 years, retiring in 1995.
Winifred loved her kitties, adult coloring books, spending time with her family, telling jokes, and making people laugh.
She is survived by her son, Anthony "Tony" Persing of Northumberland; daughter, Geraldine "Jerry" Yagle of Sunbury; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepsons; many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Shaffer of Harrisburg; many nieces and nephews; and her baby kitties, Taffy and Chloe.
She was preceded in death by her son, William C. Persing Jr. in 2003; sister, Kathleen Zeiders in 2007; and her husband, Ronald L. Bickel on July 7, 2010.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 2.
Interment will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
A special thanks to the staff of SCU4, GMC, that cared for her and showed tremendous kindness to her. She will be missed by many.
