Wilma Jean McKee, 92, formerly of Watsontown, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, where she had been residing the past few years.
Born Oct. 14, 1924, in Bath, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Wheeler and Mildred (Doan) Gelder.
Jean was a homemaker all her life and a very industrious person. She had developed a long list of skills in everything from woodworking to fine needlework. People who knew her remember her as being the life of the party. In some respects, her style was "outside the box", yet her upbringing and conviction as a Christian kept her appropriate and charming for friends of all ages.
Earlier in life she had attended Watsontown Alliance Church and volunteered at the Watsontown Senior Citizen's Center.
She was a loving mom and grandmother, always willing to work (and laugh) beside you when help was needed. In spite of all her good deeds, Jean knew that in Christ, alone, her sure hope was found. "For it is not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy, He saves us" Titus 3:5.
Surviving are two daughters, Laurie Yost, of Omaha, Neb. and Sue Wells-Nelson, of Ohio; five grandchildren, Todd Bogenrief, of Paris, Tenn., Peggy Lee Reynolds, of Nancy, Ky., Andrew Wells and Lucas and Tyler Yost; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Jean Sipe and Peggy Lyon; four husbands, Bud Lyon, Curtis Mason, Jay Bogenrief and Foster McKee; one brother, John Gelder; and two sisters, Evelyn Beeman and Florence Weiderman.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Maple Grove Cemetery, 715 W. Broad St., Horseheads, N.Y. with Pastor Scott Wolf officiating.
The family suggests contributions in Jean's memory may be made to Watsontown Alliance Church (designated for their children's ministry), 1165 Eighth Street Drive, Watsontown, PA 17777.
Arrangmements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc, PC, 124 Main Street, Watsontown.
