William Robert Sorber, 87, of Bloomsburg, died Thursday June 8, 2017. He was a resident of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center where he resided for the past two years. He was a current resident of Bloomsburg for six years.
William was born April 23, 1930, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John and Laura (Kemler) Sorber. Throughout his younger years he attended Bloomsburg area schools and later graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1949. After graduation he faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1953. On June 5, 1954 William married his beloved wife Laura Jean Halderman of Bloomsburg.
For over 40 years he was employed by J.S. Raub Shoe Store as a manager and retired in 1991. He served as President of the Americus Hose Company in Sunbury, was a member of the Bloomsburg Moose Lodge 623 and was a member of the Valley of American Legion Post 273.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by three sisters and four brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Laura Jean Sorber, children, Karen O'Brick (Kevin) and Robert Sorber; grandchildren, Tiffani Waters (Deke), Julia Sorber and Jordyn Sorber.
Time for visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, June 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market (& 8th) Street, Bloomsburg. Graveside Services will be held on Monday June 12th at 11 a.m. at the Creveling Cemetery, Bloomsburg.
