William's Story

A memorial service for William C. Richard, 93, of Lewisburg, who passed away Feb. 10, 2018, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 16, at St. Johns United Church of Christ with his pastor, the Rev. Robert Stoudt officiating. Military services will be provided by Lewisburg Area Veterans.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

William was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Mooresburg, a son of the late Russell E. and Myrtle L. (Hess) Richard. He was married to the former Anna E. Kreisher who preceded him in death in 2010 after 63 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father and friend.

He was a graduate of the Montandon High School in 1943, but as he had enlisted prior to graduation, he graduated with his class in spirit and had his diploma on an empty chair along with a flag. He served in the Army for 27 years in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam retiring as a First Sergeant. He had been employed with the Lewisburg Post Office for 15 years

William had a curious nature and loved the outdoorssnorkeling in Hawaii, planting gardens, collecting arrowheads, shells, rocks and insects to name a few. He had an analytical mind that shaped how he saw the worldhe wanted to understand how things worked--he would try almost anythingand many came to believe that he could figure out how to do or fix about anything.

He loved to read and recite poetry and would write a bit from time to time. He was dedicated to service beyond his military commitmentas time permitted in his life, he was active in organizations, his own and his family'sscouting, Masonic endeavors, including Rainbow Girlsand helped build a church, and was always committed to helping with whatever needed to be done for everyonefriends and family alike.

William was a member of St Johns United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, Rising Sun Lodge #151 F&AM Under the Jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines, Japan, and visited Charity Lodge #144 , Lewisburg. He was a member of American Legion Post #841 Montandon and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #15040, as a member at large.

He is survived by a son Alan L. Richard and his wife, Helen; a daughter, Laree L. Richard; and extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne I. Richard; daughter, Constance M. Brim, her husband Raleigh O.A. Brim Jr., and infant son, Raleigh O. A. Brim III.

The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in William's memory be made to the Hospice of Evangelical, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or St. John's United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Hospice of Evangelical for the exceptional support and care that we all received. We particularly want to thank Dannette Shebest, RN, Leslie Bach, Sheila Ketchum of Hospice and our caregiver of several years, June Saxon of Home Instead.
