William's Story

William R. "WR" McCollum, 74, of Foust Road, Milton, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Turbotville, a son of the late Ross and Hilda I. (Marshall) McCollum. On May 28, 1988, he married the former Barbara Foust and they have celebrated 29 years of marriage.

Bill was a veteran of the Navy, having served aboard the USS Farragut during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was a professional driver and was employed for more than 30 years with Milton Transportation. Later in life he was a driver for Watsontown Trucking Co., Harold Fleming's Fast Leasing Inc., and Krick Carriers Inc. He was a recipient of the Million Mile Safe Driver Award and also served as a CDL trainer for newcomers to the industry.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 40 in Danville and the Daville and Milton Elks.
Bill loved being involved with his daughter's equestrian activities and adored spending time with his granddaughter Themie June.

Bill will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mackenzie A. and Zachary Appleman, of rural Milton; one granddaughter, Themie June Appleman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ross A. Sr. and Shirley McCollum, of Watsontown and John C. and Lara McCollum, of Springtown, Texas; and two sisters, Ruth Ellen Reibsome and Patricia I. Black, both of Turbotville.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth G. McCollum Sr. on Dec. 9, 2004.

Friends and family are invited to call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, followed by a celebration of Bill's life at 1, with Caleb Swartz and Pastor Mike Sweigard of Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Washingtonville Cemetery.
