William Charles LeMasters

January 07, 1955 - October 30, 2018

William Charles LeMasters William Charles "Bill" LeMasters, DO, 63, of Sunbury, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born Jan. 7, 1955, in Hazelton, a son of the late Robert F.H. and Elizabeth W. (Sourber) LeMasters. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Donna Fulmer on Aug. 26, 1978, in Tamaqua, and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Bill graduated with honors from Drexel University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He subsequently graduated with honors from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. He became board certified in ophthalmology following his residency at Geisinger Hospital in Danville, and had a busy private practice with offices in Sunbury and Shamokin. He joined the Geisinger Medical Group in 2011 and enjoyed the opportunity to teach the residents his craft. He continued to practice until he fell ill in 2016. He was well loved by his patients and respected by his colleagues.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Master Mason in Sunbury Lodge 022. He made many great memories with his friends and family at Greenwood Lake, where he was a longstanding member.

With several Brittany Spaniels he had throughout his life, he enjoyed his passion of grouse hunting most, but was an avid hunter of large and small game and spent much of his time enjoying the outdoors golfing, walking, and fishing. Later in life he appreciated the opportunity to share these passions with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Keystone Fish and Game club, Dream Mile Club, and others. His trophy room included innumerable grouse tails, turkey tails, mountain goat, elk, doll sheep, moose and caribou mounts, black bear, and a prize-winning brown bear from Alaska. While indoors, he enjoyed hunting through genealogy records.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, and two children, daughter Kelly and her husband Brandon Dearman, of York, and son, William and his wife Theresa, of Sunbury; granddaughters, Trinity Whyne and Stella LeMasters, and grandson, Francis LeMasters, all of Sunbury; and granddaughter, Adelynn Dearman and grandson Alexavier Dearman, both of York; and his brother, Dr. Thomas LeMasters and his wife Sally of Tamaqua.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Robert R LeMasters of Tamaqua.

No services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's honor to the National Parks Service or to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine to a scholarship named in his honor.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.

One of my earliest memories of Bill is of playing trucks on his living room floor. I don’t know why I was there. Bill was a friend and classmate from North Ward Elementary to high school and he was always a kind and friendly soul. Our prayers to his family.
