William J. Hoyer, 84, of 127 Ward Lane, Northumberland, passed away on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at his residence.
He was born March 26, 1933, in Shamokin.
Bill was educated in Shamokin schools and went on to serve his country in the Army for more than 20 years. He retired in 1973 and returned to his home town and began a second career at the Northumberland County AVTS where he taught until health problems cut his rewarding career short.
He was a 25-year member of Masonic Lodge 255, Shamokin, Past Grand at Tall Cedar Forest No. 61, ad Past Worthy Patron of O.E.S. Shamokin Chapter.
Bill enjoyed hunting, camping, and traveling with his family.
Bill met Judy, his wife of 62 years during his first tour of duty in Korea. They had four children, Katie Sue Krum and husband Tim, of Danville, Bruce Robert Hoyer and his wife Joan, of Hopewell, Va., Judy Ann Deroba and husband Bill, of Trevorton, and Barbara Jean Griffiths and husband Scot, of Shamokin. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jarad and Tiana Krum, William and Bruce Hoyer, Jonathon and Aaron Deroba, Nicholas, Amanda and Tyler Griffiths; and two great-grandchildren, Kendra Hoyer and Elias Cruz.
He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Barbara Jean Griffiths.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Farrow Funeral Directors, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, with a Masonic service prior to the visitation. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jean Eckrod officiating.
Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Disabled Veterans or Tall Cedars of Sunbury.
