William Boyer

September 10, 1943 - August 10, 2018

William Boyer, 74, of Northumberland, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at his home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1943, in Sunbury, a son of the late S. Helen (Chesney) and Charles W. "Butch" Boyer. He married Barbara (Slack) Boyer on November 23, 1968. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. This past June the entire family was able to celebrate at one of his favorite places, Walt Disney World.

Bill was a 1961 graduate of Sunbury High School and was proud to serve as class president until his death. He graduated from Gettysburg College in 1965 an fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a math teacher.
He retired from Shikellamy School District in 2002 after 37 years of service. Bill enjoyed preparing tax returns for many years and was proud of the fact that all of the returns were completed on paper without using a computer. Many of his clients were family and friends or coworkers. He looked forward to their yearly visits.
Bill was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. Faith, church, family, and friends were foremost in his life.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Bill is survived by two daughters Stephanie Boyer of Lewisburg and Lisa Nava of Selinsgrove; two granddaughters, Chelsea Boyer and Haylee Nava; and nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Carl in 2014.

What made him truly happy was spending time with family and friends, planning family vacations, coaching his daughters and granddaughters, and attending their sporting events. He loved recalling stories and never tired of telling them over and over.
Bill was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished by his family and friends.

Friends and family may from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Fifth and Market streets, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 1, with the Rev. Richard Fangmann officiating.
Interment will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions in Bill's honor to be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 15 S. Fifth St., Sunbury, PA 17801, or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
Condolences may be made at davidzweierfuneralhome.com.

Very saddened to learn of Bill's passing. Truly a good man, who enjoyed life to its fullest. No matter when one met Bill for a brief chat or a hello, he had a smile and consistent positive attitude.I will miss seeing Bill at the Sunbury YMCA.

I believe I had Mr. Boyer as a teacher the year before he retired. As I think of him, it’s how he made me feel, not anything he may have said that I remember. Those feelings were and are all positive. Although I’m sure it existed at some point, I never had the feeling that he was “burned out” from teaching. He smiled often and seemed to enjoy educating the students. I would like the family to know that he made a difference.

Met Bill at the Y several years ago. We shared our love for old time Rock & Roll & would discuss upcoming shows. When I started a fundraiser for Alzheimer's, Bill would be the first to give. He lost his aunt, who was like his second mother, to this disease. He was a kind & gentle man who will be greatly missed. RIP🙏

To the Boyer families please accept my deepest and sincere condolences for the loss of a great man and math teacher. Mr. Boyer was the teacher that i went to when struggling with my math and his was instrumental in helping me keep my grades up so i could graduate with my class in 1984. For that accomplishment i will never forget him as a great teacher who cared enough to help struggling students.

For Bill's family and dear friends, he was my middle school math teacher. His love for people and for math was obvious, and he never gave up on a struggling student. He helped me tackle long division, and made me love it! I'm thankful for him, and I pray for your grieving hearts.
