Terry's Story

Terry C. Bittner passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at his home at 16 Stony Creek Lane, Mifflinburg.

He was born Jan. 13, 1939, at home in Hummels Wharf to Carl "Dinah" C. and Miriam C. (Wochley) Bittner. He married Jeanne C. Rust, of Magnolia Minn. in 1960, and they were married for 15 years. In August 2004, he married Brenda L. Deavor.

He attended local schools, graduating from Selinsgrove in 1956. Terry served in the Navy from 1957-1959 as a radio operator aboard the USS Canberra. Upon discharge he returned to Hummels Wharf.

Over his life Terry worked at BKW, of Hummels Wharf, Olmsted AFB and Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, as a procurement contracting officer. He left federal service for a time working locally at Zenith, the Laurelton and Selinsgrove centers, Mifflinburg Lumber, Pontius Datson, then returning to federal service with the US Postal Service, retiring out of Lewisburg.

Terry was a very active retiree. He operated Stony Creek Campground and always had work to do trees to cut, stone to rake, something to build. He loved nature and spent much time in the woods. He loved animals and always had his dogs nearby while working. Terry even had an array of barn cats. He was an active member of the Milton Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he served as a deacon and elder along with serving on various church committees. Terry enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

He leaves behind his grieving family who will hold dear and treasure our memories of him and his wisdom his wife of 12 years, Brenda; daughter, Sheila Rust; daughter, Debra Raymond; son, Mark (Shelly) Bittner; daughter, Christina Hosler; son, Adam (Liza) Hosler; son, Bob (Christina) Hosler; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, one niece, two nephews, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the R.B. Winter State Park (Half Way Dam), pavilion 1, Route 192, west of Mifflinburg.

Interment will be in Freeburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are being handled by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
