Stanley H. Smith, 90, of the New Berlin Road, Middleburg, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.
He was born June 7, 1926, in Middleburg, a son of the late Herman and Clara (Bowersox) Smith. On Nov. 30, 1946, he married the former Mae E. Walter who preceded him in death on March 8, 2006.
Earlier in his life he had farmed and later worked for area building contractors including Elder Ewing and Brookside Homes. After his retirement, he operated Smith Sharpening Service sharpening saws.
He was a life-long member of Hummel's United Methodist Church, Middleburg, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and financial secretary. He was a member of the Snyder County Gideons and the NRA.
Stanley enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger E. and Marge Smith and Galen M. and Karen Smith, all of Middleburg; five grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Andrea Smith, Dustin and Alicia Smith, Kurt and Jenn Smith, George Robert Smith and Jessica Smith; 10 great-grandchildren, Lucas, Daisy, Quinn, Courtney, Ashton, Sierra, Clayton, Lara, Peyton, and Sydney; one sister, Romaine Scholl, of Shamokin Dam; and three brothers, Randall, Stoy and Kenneth Smith, all of Middleburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Smith.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hummel's United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Pastor Carvel K. May and his nephew, the Rev. Alvin Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
