Shirley A. Wendt, 90, of Selinsgrove passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
She was born on March 19, 1927, in Shamokin Dam, a daughter of the late George and Carrie (Shaffer) Slear. On Sept. 27, 1947, she married William Wendt. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2008.
Shirley was a graduate of Selinsgrove Area High School. She was very athletic, excelling in basketball and serving as team captain. She also enjoyed dancing, ice skating and was an outstanding swimmer.
After high school, Shirley was employed by Westinghouse and Nite-Kraft in Sunbury.
Family became the focus of Shirley's life. She always put her family first and was a very dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed time with her daughters, granddaughters and dog companion, Happy.
Shirley was a strong, resilient woman, and a person of integrity. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to laugh. If you needed a caring, good listener, Shirley was the one.
Shirley was a member of St. Paul's UCC Church in Selinsgrove.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Debra and Andrew Belsinger, and Denise and Brad Kiess; two grandchildren, Ashley Belsinger and Danielle Kiess; and two sisters, June Straub and Nancy Burns.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Carson, Dale, and Bill Slear; and one sister, Eleanor Anderson.
Services will be private. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Selinsgrove.
Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High Street, Selinsgrove.
