Shirley's Story

Text size

Shirley (Orwig) Agee, 88, of Crofton, Md., passed away on July 13, 2017.
Shirley grew up on Orange Street in Northumberland, Pa. ?She was the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Orwig, and was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Fay, Mae, John, Lester, Betty, Catherine, Robert, and Ray.

She attended the Northumberland Methodist Church in which her family was active. She graduated from high school and always considered herself a "Pineknotter" and later moved to Maryland.

She was a homemaker who raised five children. Shirley worked for the Anne Arundel County library system until her retirement.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, the Symphony, playing the piano, and activities with her church, Community United Methodist Church of Crofton, where she sang in the choir carrying on her mother's tradition. She was well known by family and friends as "the best pie maker in the world", with crab cakes as a close second place.

Shirley's children are Robert (Remy), of Crofton, Md., Randall (Diane), of Gualla, Calif., Debra Agee-Burton (Bruce Burton), of Santa Rosa, Calif., Donald C. (deceased), and Jeffrey Agee (Judy Schanel), of Greensboro, N.C. Shirley delighted in her seven grandchildren and was delightfully amazed that she had 10 great-grandchildren.

She will have a small, family ceremony at her Crofton Church and internment in her family cemetery in Northumberland, Pa., on Aug. 5.

Donations are welcome in Shirley's honor to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hyw., Pasadena, MD 21122, or Community United Methodist Church of Crofton, 1690 Riedel Rd., Crofton, MD 21114.
