Shirlene D. Gilchrist, 82, of 1032 W. Shamokin Street, Trevorton, passed away Thursday March 8, 2018, at her home, the same home where she was born. She joined her husband, James L. Gilchrist Jr., who passed away January 17, 2017.
She was born April 10, 1935, to the late Reynolds and DonAlda (Beisel) Reed.
Shirlene married James on Dec. 29, 1954. They had 62 happy years together until his passing.
Shirlene attended and graduated from Trevorton High School. She was a housewife and book keeper for her husband's business, Zerbe Beverage, in Trevorton.
Shirlene was a loving mother and is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, James R. of Milton, Keith L. of Coal Township, Donald J. (Patricia) of McKinney, Texas, and Kenneth L. (Cheryl) of Sunbury; four grandchildren who were blessed to call her their "Mam", Angela M. (Kenneth) Fonde of Perkasie, Aaron J. Gilchrist of Lake Ariel, Christopher P. (Diana) Gilchrist of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jessica N. Gilchrist of McKinney, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, who she enjoyed, Lillian Noel Gilchrist and Trinity Gianna Foulds, Aaron's daughters; and Henry James Gilchrist, Christopher's son. Shirlene was very much looking forward to Angela's child due in June.
Shirlene loved and lived for her family, and spending time with them. All family would gather and celebrate holidays at Mam's house. She enjoyed Thursday morning hair appointments at "Honey's," catching up with the ladies in town.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirlene was preceded by two brothers, Thearle and Darwin.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, followed by the funeral at noon, with Rev. Frederick Faust officiating.
Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirlene's memory to the Trevorton Fire Co., 626 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, or Trevorton Community Ambulance, 510 W. Market St. Trevorton.
The family would like to thank the hospice nurses from VNA for their kindness and care to Shirlene and the family for the past two months. "You all are appreciated!"
