Russell Leroy Zimmerman


Russell Leroy Zimmerman, 85, of Millmont, entered into rest at 10:24 a.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019, at ManorCare,Sunbury.

He was born March 5, 1934, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Lester L. and Isabelle K. (Pontius) Zimmerman. On Nov. 7, 1954, he married the former Jane M. Strickler who survives. They had one son, Bryan R. Zimmerman, who preceded him in death.

Russell was a 1953 graduate of Mifflinburg High School where he was a standout wrestler and went undefeated in 1953. He was a honorably discharged Army veteran.
Russ worked in bridge construction for S.J. Groves and Sons, Inc. He was also co-owner of Zimmerman's Powder Keg, Glen Iron.
He was a member of the Glen Iron Fire Company, the Mifflinburg American Legion, the Mifflinburg VFW, and the Union County Sportsman's Club.

In keeping with Russ's wishes, there will be no services.

For many years Russell and I celebrated our birthdays together, he would get me so drunk. with that sippin whiskey, of course he would tell me that after i would do it by shots, a very special man who Buck and I feel very honored to have known, rest in peace and fly free

When I visited Russ and Jan in Pennsylvania...they both made me and my daughter feel very welcome. He was so kind and friendly. He made most everyone feel like a friend. Run free darling
