Russell's Story

Russell Lewis Wilhour passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was 79. He was born in Danville, Pennsylvania to Dr. Freeman and Dorthea Hartman Wilhour on May 15, 1938. Russ graduated from Sunbury High School in 1956 where he was class president and student conductor of the band and orchestra. He also enjoyed playing basketball, softball and tennis for much of his life.
Russ received an electronics degree from Temple University in 1960 after attending Massanutten Military School in 1956-57. Russ married Dr. Jane Reinaker Wilhour and they were married for 55 ears. They have one son, Wesley Curtis Wilhour. He had a successful career with RCA, Magnavox and Honeywell before embarking on his career as owner and operator of Key Allegro Isle Marina in Rockport, Texas. He took great pleasure in developing the gulf coast marina into a large 150 boat facility with a restaurant and ship's store. His vacation time was busy with big game hunting in North America and travel time with his family. Through his ownership of the marina he was able to mentor many young people who worked with him during high school and college. Those young people established careers as lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs, administrators and computer science specialists.
He started riding a motorcycle at 16 years of age and enjoyed riding throughout his life. He rode his motorcycle across 48 states in the USA with the Harley Owners Group. He was also an avid car collector of vintage 1960 automobiles.
Russell, Jane and Wes enjoyed living and working in many states across the country and enjoyed studying the history of those areas. He dearly loved his son, Wesley, his wife and extended family. He was a member of Presbyterian churches across the country and a sponsor of youth organizations in the church. Many foundations and charitable organizations received his support.
Russ is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jane Reinaker Wilhour; his son, Wesley Curtis Wilhour; his sister Janice and her husband Gary Young; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty Tyler and Dr. John Tyler; six nieces and nephews and their families. It was always his great pleasure to be with high school and university friends with whom he remained in close contact all his life.
A Memorial Service was held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Boerne. There will be a Celebration of Life for Russel during May or June 2018. People will be notified. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Russell's memory may be made to St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Bandera Road, Boerne, TX 78006 or a charity of your choice.
