Russell I. Wertz Sr., known as "Crank", 80, of Sunbury, entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at his home.
He was born June 30, 1937, in Renovo, a son of the late Joseph T. and Helen (LeBaron) Wertz.
Russell attended Renovo School. He was a 6-year Army veteran of which he spent 18 months in Korea. After receiving an honorable discharge, he came home to marry the former Joyce Harrison.
Russell became an over-the-road truck driver and mechanic. Russell retired from Whitmer Fuels Trucking in Sunbury.
He was a life member of the Friendship Hose Company,Sunbury, and an honorable member of Val Verde County Fire and Rescue of Val Verde, Texas.
Russell enjoyed working on all fire apparatus. He loved hunting, fishing, boating, and camping with his family. Playing the organ and guitar were also enjoyable to him. He loved being busy and helping others.
In addition to his wife Joyce of 55 years, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Chet Ernest; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Jr., and Patty, and Joseph T. and Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Russell Bradley Wertz, and fiance, Kim Fry, Justin David Wertz, and girlfriend Ashley Klick, Alissa Marie Wertz, and Brandon Michael Ernest; one stepgrandson, Nathan Williams; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Autumn, Charity Wertz, and David and Paedyn Petterson; and one sister, Margaret Delaney, of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Honoring Russell's wishes, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in loving memory of Russ to Celtic Hospice, 900 Century Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, or to the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, P.O. Box 65, Mount Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, to help defray funeral expenses.
