Russell D. "Fuzzy" Hite, 68, of Witmer Drive, Northumberland, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017.
He was born Feb. 13, 1949, in Altoona, a son of the late Russell G. and Lois L. (Hayes) Hite. On May 14, 2004, he married the former Dawn K. Weaver who survives.
Fuzzy was a 1967 graduate of Shikellamy High School. He enlisted with the Air Force on Jan. 24, 1969, serving during the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 8, 1973 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was employed as a meat cutter and meat room manager at Weis Markets Inc., Sunbury from 1966 until his retirement in 2014. He continued to work on a part-time basis after his retirement.
He was active in his community as a member of the American Legion Post 44 and the Sunbury Social Club.
Fuzzy was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and also enjoyed cars. He was a talented painter and an amateur photographer. As an avid outdoorsman he also spent his time hiking and hunting.
In addition to his wife of 13 years, he is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Russell P. and Shelly L. Hite, of Northumberland, Michael D. and Dana M. Hite, of Fort Myers, Fla., Zachary A. and Jamie L. Hite, of Black Mountain, N.C., and Jared C. Hite, of Bloomsburg; one daughter, Karisa L. Hite and fiancée Adam L. Fave, of Strausstown; stepson, Bryan M. Hayter, of Northumberland; stepdaughter, Stacey L. Slodysko and husband Derrick E., of Northumberland; grandchildren, Kara, Katelyn, Jacob and Amanda Hite; stepgrandchildren, Samson Hayter and Jacob and Owen Slodysko; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph A. and Susan M. Hite, of Crown King, Ariz.; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie L. and Dennis A. Huff, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Christina L. and Robert H. Bailey, of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Paula K. Hite.
Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, followed by the funeral at 11.
Burial with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 44 will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
