Russel's Story

Russel Samuel Reiner, 94, of Pitman, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hopital, Shamokin.
He was born May 6, 1923, in Pitman, a son of the late Katie (Rebuck) and Henry Y. Reiner. On July 31, 1949, he married the former Mary Carpenter who survives. They celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Russel worked as a farmer and was a rural carrier for the Postal Service in Klingerstown. Prior to being the full time mail carrier for Klingerstown he was a substitute carrier for Pitman.
He was a life member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he served on the official board, and was superintendent of the Sunday School, and a member of the Mahantongo Fire Company.
He enjoyed word searches and puzzles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dennis Messner, of Valley View and Dawn and Marlin Lesher, of Pitman; one sister, Ruth Stepp; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Reiner; five grandchildren, Tracey Witmer, Melodee Lesher, Jill Beatty, Joy Lenker and Timothy Lesher; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Katie "Marie" Gallagher, Anna Mull, and Erma Snyder; and three brothers, Henry, Lee and Paul Reiner.

A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Main Road, Pitman, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Warren Egebo officiating.
Interment will follow in Jacob's Cemetery, Pitman.

Memorial contributions in Russel's memory may be made to the memorial fund at St. James Lutheran Church, 153 Main Road, Pitman, PA 17964.
