Roberta's Story

Roberta Alice Kurrell, 79, of Sunbury, passed away on July 22, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Cyrus Sr. and Helen (Long) Hovenstine. She was married for 55 years to Frank Kurrell Jr. who preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2008.

Roberta was the most kind, loving and caring woman. Her pride and joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When she was younger, she had a passion for shooting darts.
She was employed as a custodian and cashier at Grant's, Sunbury.
Roberta attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church where she was on the board of directors and volunteered for fundraisers. She was on the Ladies Auxiliary at the Sunbury Steam Engine No. 1.
Roberta loved to cook and bake and enjoyed shopping. She loved to visit family and friends and got out to eat with a longtime family friend, Emma Ferster. She looked forward to and enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family. Recently, she loved to spend time at the camper up at the campgrounds. She found a peace and comfort spending time with the four dogs, especially Baby Boo. She is loved dearly and will be greatly missed

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Frank Kurrell III, of Sunbury, Kenny and Melody Kurrell, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Tina and William Jenkins Jr., of Watsontown, and Robert Kurrell and David Fisher, of Paxinos, Teresa and Lorie Kurrell, of Kratzerville; grandchildren, Aubrey and Stephen Kurrell-Crocker, Brandi Kurrell, Bobbi and Andy Seibert, Anthony Broome, Eric Jenkins, Nathaniel and Amber Jenkins, Justin Rhoades, Bradley Jenkins, Ashlee Kurrell, Zachary King, and Tyler King; great-grandchildren, Landon Seibert, Alayna Ball, and Rae-Lynn Jenkins; two brothers, Cyrus and Robert Hovenstine; one sister, Helen Wynn; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John in infancy, and Edward; two grandsons, Grant Jenkins and Kenny Kurrell; two sisters, Iris Moyer and Georgianna Lietzel; and one brother, Stanley Hovenstine.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, 539 Race St., Sunbury, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Carrie Stine officiating.
Burial in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Roberta's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donor's favorite charity.
