Robert E. "Bob" VanHorn, 90, of New Berlin, passed away on Sunday evening, March 11, 2018, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, from injuries sustained from a fall at his home.
He was born July 13, 1927, in Middleburg, a son of the late Joseph R. and Sadie (Kratzer) VanHorn. On Jan. 23, 1949, he married the former Erma K. Miller who survives.
Bob was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and served in the Army.
He had been employed as a diesel mechanic at Faylor-Middlecreek Construction, Rollins Leasing, and Penske Leasing.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, New Berlin, the New Berlin American Legion Post, the New Berlin Fire Company, the Mifflinburg Masonic Lodge 370, the Williamsport Consistory and the Shrine, and a life member of the Summit Hunting Camp.
Bob enjoyed hunting, yard work, and gardening, especially his rose garden.
In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tom Hartman of Penns Creek; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven "Skip" and Ann VanHorn of New Berlin; two granddaughters, Amy Poff and Andrea Gemberling and husband Nick, all of Middleburg; one great-granddaughter, Aleah Gemberling; and one brother and sister-in-law, William and Connie VanHorn of Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert VanHorn Jr. in 1979 and Craig "Huey" VanHorn in 2017; and one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Robert "PeeWee" Neiswender.
Friends and family will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, with Masonic Lodge 370 conducting a memorial service at 2, followed by the funeral, with the Rev. L. Keith Pittsnogle officiating.
Burial will be in New Berlin Cemetery.
