Robert G. Kirby, 86, of Lewisburg and Merritt Island, Fla., passed away on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at his home in Lewisburg.
He was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Lansford, a son of the late Richmond T. and Rose T. (McHugh) Kirby. He was married to the former Leora Harpster and his death breaks a marital union of 63 years.
Robert was a 1949 graduate of Milton High School and a 1970 graduate of Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla. He had served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Robert had worked for IBM for more than 40 years and was part of the Apollo Launch Team in Cape Kennedy, Fla.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Carol Patton, of Rockledge, Fla., Susan Blase and her husband Larry, of Danville, and Patricia Schneiter-Kirby and her husband Thomas, of Oberbalm, Switzerland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richmond "Dick" Kirby, of Fort Mill, S.C.
Friends and relatives will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Broadway, Milton, with the Rev. John D. Hoke as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Milton.
The family will provide flowers and ask for donations in Robert's memory to be made to your favorite charity.
