A native of Bangor, he was born Aug. 26, 1928, a son of the late Richard and Margaret (Straudinger) Thomas. He married the former Patsy Coggon and his death breaks a marital union of 67 years.
Dick spent four years in the Navy, then 16 1/2 years in the Air Force. He was a chef at the Pentagon, and for the Air Force Chief of Staff. His culinary employment continued at Con Agra and the Bucknell Dining Service. He was also an air traffic controller.
Dick was a member of the Winfield Baptist Church, was formerly a Mason, and enjoyed traveling and walking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rick Thomas of Lewisburg, and Robert "Bob" Thomas and his wife Jill, of Lewisburg; a daughter, Jean Springer of Cornwall; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Carl Thomas and Glenwood Leroy Thomas.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg, followed by the funeral with his pastor, the Rev. Corey Mitchell officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
