Richard Thomas

Richard Thomas Richard Thomas, 90, of 1706 Washington Ave., Lewisburg, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 3, 2019, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.

A native of Bangor, he was born Aug. 26, 1928, a son of the late Richard and Margaret (Straudinger) Thomas. He married the former Patsy Coggon and his death breaks a marital union of 67 years.

Dick spent four years in the Navy, then 16 1/2 years in the Air Force. He was a chef at the Pentagon, and for the Air Force Chief of Staff. His culinary employment continued at Con Agra and the Bucknell Dining Service. He was also an air traffic controller.

Dick was a member of the Winfield Baptist Church, was formerly a Mason, and enjoyed traveling and walking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rick Thomas of Lewisburg, and Robert "Bob" Thomas and his wife Jill, of Lewisburg; a daughter, Jean Springer of Cornwall; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Carl Thomas and Glenwood Leroy Thomas.

Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg, followed by the funeral with his pastor, the Rev. Corey Mitchell officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.

Donations in Dick's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

I've only known you a short while, but the times together remind me of the love between your family . I'm glad to have been part of your family. I observed first hand, the loving bond between you and Pat, and can better grasp the loving journeys this family has been through, together. My favorite story is Pat sharing the way you both first met. She certainly new a good man to fall in love with. Jean, thank you for the opportunity to have celebrated their latest anniversary...The smiles on the picture taken on their last anniversary cleary shows that love. I'm certain Dick knew and will always know, just how much his family loved him.
