Richard A. "Dick" Smith, 79, of Milton, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at his home.
He was born April 23, 1938, in Montgomery, a son of the late Earl L. and Pearl (Ensor) Smith. On January 24, 1996, he married the former Sylvia M. (McLaughlin) Hall and they have celebrated 21 years of marriage.
He was a graduate of Montgomery High School and served actively with the Navy and then with the Army Reserves, retiring after 20 years of service. Following his military retirement, he was employed by PennDOT, Montoursville.
He was a life member of the Muffly Huff Post 8206 VFW, Turbotville and the American Legion, Watsontown, and a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Milton.
Dick loved music, especially southern gospel music, and had played in several country bands, and sang in his church choir when able. He also enjoyed singing in local nursing homes. He loved traveling with his wife through many states and his favorite trip was through the Canadian Rockies by train with Judy and Nelson Styers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Steve Smith and his wife Danielle, of Schuylkill Haven; one daughter, Shelly; stepsons, John, Todd, Doug, and Jeff Hall; stepdaughter, Cherie Hall; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren, with two on the way; and two half brothers, Hoyt Keiser Jr. and his wife Judy, of Tunkhannock and Gary Keiser and his wife Debbie in Alaska.
Friends are invited to a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc, PC, 124 Main St., Watsontown, followed by a memorial service at 11, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel, his pastor, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Dick's memory be made to Geisinger Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Suite 200, Bloomsburg, PA 17815, or St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 102 Lower Market St., Milton, PA 17847.
