Richard L. "Dick" Mitchell, 90, of the Old Danville Highway, Northumberland, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born July 20, 1925, in New Berlin, a son of the late Russel D. and Grace P. (Bilger) Mitchell. On May 14, 1947, he married the former Bernice I. Zechman who preceded him in death on April 24, 2010.
Dick served in the Army during World War II serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.
He retired from Tex-Gas Corp., Milton where he was a manager.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Northumberland, the Northumberland Masonic Lodge, the Williamsport Consistory, and American Legion Post 44, Northumberland.
Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed square dancing and country music. He and his wife loved to travel, especially going to Florida.
He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Ray Hassinger and Arla Gotshall, all of Mifflinburg, and Robert C. Forbes, of Northumberland; nieces and nephews, Carol and Terry Wagner, Beverly and Bill Lash, and Danny Ernest, and numerous great-nieces and nephews; and the Forbes nieces and nephews, Darlene and Robert Leitzel, Bob Forbes, Randy and Tammy Forbes, and Ron and Judy Forbes, and great-nieces and nephews, Denise Runkle, Robert Leitzel Jr., Ronald Forbes Jr., Jennifer Hoover, Tricia Hollenbach, Randy Forbes Jr., Angela Forbes, and Mark Forbes.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Delmar Mitchell; and one nephew, Scott Ernest.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, with a Masonic memorial service at 11, followed by the funeral, with the Rev. Brian E. Beissel officiating.
Burial with military honors by the Middle West Veterans Honor Guard in the New Berlin Cemetery.
