Richard W. Kelchner Sr, 79, of York, formerly of Berwick, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 11, 1938, in Berwick, a son of the late Atlee and Thelma (Whitmire) Kelchner. Richard married the love of his life, the former Mary E. Marshall on Dec. 30, 1959, making 58 years of marriage on the day of his passing.
Richard graduated from Berwick High School. In 1959 he enlisted in the Airforce and served honorably until 1976 as an aircraft mechanic. After retiring from the military, he worked at the New Cumberland Navy Base in Mechanicsburg for 15 years.
He was a life member of the VFW, and a member of the American Legion.
Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping with his wife, and spending as much time as he could with his family.
In addition to his wife, he will be greatly missed by his children, Patricia Kelchner, of Florida, Richard Kelchner Jr and wife Nylene, of Sparta, Wis., Denise Moulds and husband Craig, of Fisher, Minn., David Kelchner and wife Christine, of York, Kimberly Venhuizen and husband Scott, of Spring Grove; 11 cherished grandchildren; six adored great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joan Kelchner, of Berwick, and Charles and Colleen Kelchner, of Pace, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Doyle Whitmire, of Berwick; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller Funeral Home LLC, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck, followed by the funeral at 11.
Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions are suggested to a local hospice organization or the Alzheimer's Association.
