Richard L. "Berky" Hood, 80, a resident of North Ridge Center, McAlisterville, formerly of Richfield, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2016, at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Richard was born January 31, 1936, in Richfield, a the son of the late Percy N. and Mabel (Eichman) Hood. He was married to the late Carletta C. (Chubb) Hood.
He was a graduate of East Juniata High School and was a veteran of the Marine Corps.
Richard retired from Regester's Chevrolet, Thompsontown and formerly worked at Wilson's Garage, Millerstown.
He was a member of St. Peters Community Church, Millerstown and served on the cemetery association for many years.
Richard enjoyed fishing, reading, and baseball. His favorite team was the New York Yankees.
He is survived by two children, one son, Jeffrey Hood; of Lancaster; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Brian Harwick, of Pine Grove; five grandchildren, Justine Kiehl, Andy Hood, Ben Hood, Jessica Harwick, and Nathan Harwick; one sister, Marian Foltz, of Richfield; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Gerald, and Harold Hood; and one sister, Ethel Spade.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peters Community Church, Zeiders Road (Knousetown), Millerstown, followed by the funeral at 2, with Pastor Brittin F. Stimeling officiating.
Burial with full military honors accorded by the Liverpool American Legion Post 364 will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
